You, along with thousands of others, may think that spring and summer are the best times to have a new roof installed. But actually, it makes far more sense to have the work carried out in fall, and here’s why:
The temperatures will be easier to bear
In many areas of the country, the weather is at its most pleasant during the beginning of fall; not so hot, which makes it difficult for the roofing contractors when exposed to the sun as they are, often dry, so that no part of the installation has to be called off due to heavy rains, and not so windy, meaning that there are no risks to anyone during the installation.
The optimal time to have asphalt shingles installed is when temperatures are between 45°F and 85°F, as very warm weather can make it tricky for roofing contractors to nail them into place, and very cold weather can make proper installation difficult as the shingles can become too brittle and prone to damage. It’s important to note that once shingles have been installed, they need a certain amount of time to be able to fully adhere to the roof, during a process known as thermal sealing. But when temperatures aren’t moderate and this process can’t be carried out fully, it can prevent the shingles from sealing properly, which will inevitably lead to costly repairs later in the roof’s lifespan.
All of this means that your roof could be installed without any delays during the early fall, and less disruption is caused to you, your family and possibly your neighbors, too.
You’ll be ready to keep out wintry storms
Cold temperatures are always a threat to a roof, and if you’re already experiencing problems with your roof and you sit them out over the winter period, you could be leaving roofing contractors with an even bigger repair job by the time spring or summer comes around, thanks to snow and ice buildup.
Winter storms can really take their toll on a roof, and just a couple of months of freezing weather can cause structural damage, rot and even result in the entire roof caving in! By fortifying your roof in advance of the winter months, you can rest easy, snug and warm inside your home throughout the entire season.
Your roof can be restored following spring and summer
Fall is a great time for any kind of roofing project as it means that you can get your roof restored and back to its former glory well in advance of the winter season. From intense heat to sultry rainstorms, spring and summer can be tumultuous months for any roof, and by having any roofing work carried out in the fall, you can address all of the issues environmental factors may have caused, and know that come next spring or summer, you can simply sat back and enjoy your roof without any worries.
It might save you money on your energy bills
By restoring your roof during fall, or having it fully replaced if its aging, worn or damaged, you can upgrade to modern, energy-efficient materials that will help you keep your home cooler in the summer, and warmer in the winter. Get your roof restored in the fall, and you can start enjoying lower heating bills by the time winter comes around, and continue to make saving throughout the extended lifecycle of your new roof.
Noting that we’re midway through September already, why not take steps to have your roof repaired before the weather turns, and start enjoying the benefits listed above before the festive season is upon us.
